No. For a new Vietnam eVisa request with VietVisaGo, uploading a flight ticket is optional. You still enter your international departure date and the local departure time, because those times decide which processing options can finish before you fly. If you have already applied and want speed-up support, the booking step asks for your flight ticket or itinerary.
This guide is written by the VietVisaGo Visa & Airport Support Team. VietVisaGo is a private assistance service based in Port Macquarie NSW, Australia. We are not the Vietnamese government or the official eVisa portal, and every visa decision is made by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
Do I need a flight ticket to apply for a Vietnam eVisa?
For a new request through VietVisaGo, you do not need to upload a flight ticket. The ticket upload in our new Vietnam eVisa application form is optional. What the form does need is your flight timing: the date and time of your international departure, in the local time of the airport you leave from.
That is the key difference between "a ticket" and "flight details". You may not have an issued ticket yet, but you should have a planned departure date and time. Have your booking details to hand, even if the ticket itself has not been issued.
If you apply yourself on the official Vietnam eVisa portal, follow the instructions shown there. Our eVisa application checklist lists what to prepare: the passport you will travel with, a clear image of its information page, a portrait photo, your intended arrival and departure dates, your arrival point in Vietnam, and an email and phone number you can access.
Why does VietVisaGo ask for my flight time if the ticket is optional?
Your departure time decides which processing options are still realistic. Our checker weighs your local departure time against the airport's time zone, processing windows, cut-off times and holidays, and only shows the options that can still be delivered before you travel.
That is why two travellers with the same passport can see different results: one flying in three days, the other tonight. Enter the time in the local time of your international departure airport, not Vietnam time, and double-check the date for overnight flights or connections. If your journey starts with a domestic flight, use the first international flight. For example, Port Macquarie to Sydney to Vietnam: choose Sydney.
If your flight changes after you submit a request, run the check again and tell the team, because the available options can change too.
What do I need for a new eVisa request instead of a ticket?
Gather these before you start, so the request is complete first time:
- Passport: valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least 2 blank pages and no damage. Use the passport you will travel with, because you must enter and leave Vietnam on the same one.
- Portrait photo and a clear copy of your passport details page.
- Travel plans: your planned arrival date and Vietnam arrival airport (Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Da Nang in our new-application form). An eVisa restricts you to the entry and exit points chosen when applying.
- Flight timing: your international departure date and time in local time. A ticket upload is optional.
- Contact details: an email address and a WhatsApp or mobile number you will check before you fly.
Applicants with a different passport nationality need a separate request. Our current new-application flow is for the 30-day single-entry eVisa.
Do I need a flight ticket for pending eVisa speed-up support?
Yes, for an existing application the booking asks for it. If you have already submitted an eVisa application and it is still pending or processing, you use our visa check rather than the new-application form. After you choose an option, the booking step asks for each applicant's passport bio page and eVisa application receipt, plus the flight ticket or itinerary for the booking.
Speed-up support for a pending eVisa starts from US$99 per applicant. Faster priority and weekend options become the choices as departure gets closer, and which ones you can select depends on your flight time; current prices are on Vietnam visa pricing. Read more on speed up my eVisa.
Do not start a second application to avoid uploading a ticket. If you have already applied, keep your existing registration code and the email used to apply, and use the existing-application route.
How do the two routes compare?
| Your situation | Route | Flight ticket | Flight timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| You have not applied yet | New eVisa request | Optional upload | Departure date and local time required |
| You applied and the eVisa is still pending | Visa check and speed-up booking | Flight ticket or itinerary uploaded at booking | Departure date and local time required |
VietVisaGo prices are service fees. The government eVisa fee is separate and is paid on the official portal.
Will the airline check my documents at check-in?
Yes. Airlines check passports and entry documents at check-in, and may refuse boarding if you cannot show valid permission to enter Vietnam. A VietVisaGo booking reference records your service request; it is not a visa. Check your airline's own document rules for your route before travelling.
Check-in is usually the deadline that matters most, not take-off. VietVisaGo uses 3 hours before departure as its check-in reference point, but each airline sets its own cut-off, so confirm yours. If your result may not arrive in time, read eVisa not approved before your flight.
Questions travellers ask about flight tickets and eVisas
Can I apply for a Vietnam eVisa before I book my flight?
Yes, for a new request with VietVisaGo the ticket upload is optional. You still enter a planned departure date and local departure time, so the form can show which processing options fit. If your plans change, run the check again and tell the team.
Which time should I enter for my flight?
Enter the departure date and time in the local time of your international departure airport, not Vietnam time. Processing windows, cut-offs and holidays are checked against your real departure.
Does uploading a ticket make approval more likely?
No service can promise approval. The Vietnamese authorities decide every application. What VietVisaGo commits to is the processing timeframe agreed with you before payment, and if we cannot deliver the agreed service, we refund 100% of the total amount you paid us. See our refund policy.
Can I apply for my family in one request without tickets?
Yes, if everyone holds the same passport nationality. Enter the number of applicants in the form; the price is shown per applicant. Each applicant needs their own passport details and portrait photo. Travellers with a different nationality need a separate request.
Where do I check my official application status?
On the official Vietnam eVisa portal's status search. Our visa check shows the support options that still fit your flight; it does not show your government status.
How do I get help with my eVisa?
Start with the new eVisa application if you have not applied, or the visa check if your application is pending. Our team reviews your request and confirms the service, timing and payment with you before you pay. Prices are starting rates; the final total depends on the service, your flight timing and any add-ons. See Vietnam visa pricing.
