You need an eVisa
Prepare the required information and review the appropriate application route for your trip.
New eVisa RequestBefore travelling, match the entry requirements to the passport you will use, your purpose of travel and the dates of your visit. Residence in Australia or another country does not replace a check of your passport nationality.
Use this checklist to prepare, then confirm the official rules for your individual journey. Already waiting for an eVisa? Follow the existing-application support route instead of starting a new request.

Existing Application OptionsTravel with the passport matching your visa or exemption evidence. Check its expiry, condition and the validity requirements for your entry route and any transit countries. If your passport has been renewed since applying, resolve the document mismatch before departure. For unusual passport types or dual-nationality cases, ask the Vietnamese embassy or immigration authority about the applicable route.

Keep the passport, visa or exemption evidence and itinerary together. Check each traveller separately, including children and anyone using a different passport nationality.
The official eVisa portal describes eVisas valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entries. Check the dates and entry type actually granted, the passport details and the permitted entry point. VVG’s current new-application request flow offers the 30-day single-entry service; contact the team if your trip needs a different option.
Consult the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa-exemption list for your passport and route. An exemption may have conditions on stay length, purpose or passport type. Do not assume that a friend’s nationality has the same rules. Australian ordinary passport holders should arrange the appropriate visa unless they hold a separately applicable exemption; see Australian Government travel advice.
Review current guidance for your arrival airport. The official Digital Pre-Arrival Form is available online; current travel advice encourages completion within 72 hours of arrival at participating international airports. Check the latest official or airline instructions for any health declaration required for your itinerary. An arrival form does not replace a visa or applicable exemption.
Present the required documents and follow the arrival instructions. Check the recorded permitted stay before leaving border control. Keep a copy of your entry record and visa, and plan departure within the permitted period. For practical preparation, read Vietnam Immigration Tips.
Check eVisa Not Approved Before Flight for a pending result. If your trip involves work, study, long-term residence or a special passport, ask the appropriate authority about the required visa category before using a short-trip application route.
